While IKEA is the first brand you think of when you're exploring desk options, there are still a lot of strong options out and about to match your needs, especially in a post-pandemic life. Many still work from home either full time, or on a hybrid approach, and don't have the room for two completely different setups for work and gaming - so a solution is needed.

One of those is Maidesite's S2 Pro Standing Desk, which shines as an adjustable desk, while having the durability for gaming.

Packaging and Assembly

The Maidesite desk comes in two very - although understandably - heavy boxes. One with the components for the build such as legs, with the other holding the table-top. Both boxes were packed to the brim with polystyrene for maximum safety, with the ridges of the top slipping into the styrofoam, it was packaged very well.

While your standard fixed-height desk is usually quite straight forward to build, it's no surprise that an adjustable desk is slightly more difficult. While the paper instructions were usable, they did lack a comprehensive step-by-step guide, especially in written format as opposed to a diagram to deal with the complexity of the build.

Luckily, Maidesite had that covered and offers step-by-step video instructions to put this together, and seeing this in visual form was incredibly useful.

Durability and Usability

It can sometimes be difficult to get a sturdy desk, and the Maidesite S2 is one that excels. It supports well on both hard wood and carpeted rooms, while standing strong during the versatility of flinging your mouse across the desk.

At 140cms wide, it is more than wide enough for a dual, or even triple monitor setup, while fitting a full desk mouse pad. While also being 70cm in depth, it perfectly fits your monitors, and mouse pad, while having plenty of room behind, so you're not cramming your monitors (unsafely) at the edge.

For those like myself who casually step into the world of sim racing, being a thick table-top of 2.5cm, it fits on Logitech branded wheels well. While the general sturdiness means your monitors aren't flailing around while ripping up the F1 circuits.

Verdict

Taking into account putting together and using the desk, alongside its hefty, although not unreasonable, price tag of £349.99/$399.99, the desk matches those expectations. The ability to have custom defined heights, while being able to change at the press of a button on the responsive touch screen changes the way I work, and game.

The Maidesite S2 Pro is a great standing desk for both work and gaming.
