Baseus PowerMega GaN Fast Charger review: Lightning quick power brick
At $89.99, it’s certainly on the pricier side of charging bricks you can buy. However, if you’re someone who owns a lot of high-powered USB C devices, the PowerMega is worth its weight in gold.

Charging bricks come in all shapes and sizes, but no two are made the same. Especially since mobile phone manufacturers like Apple and Samsung have stopped including bricks with their devices (although they’re still happy to sell them to us separately, who’d have thunk), the rise of third-party charging stations has risen dramatically.
While the PowerMega from Baseus may look like your run-of-the-mill charging brick at first glance, there’s so much more underneath that’s proven itself to be a blessing in my day-to-day life. As someone who’s lucky enough to travel around quite a lot in both their work and personal activities, this GaN charger has eliminated any sense of battery anxiety I previously had. Put simply, I can’t see myself using any other charging brick again.

What makes the Baseus PowerMega Charger different?
Most basic charging bricks might include a single port for charging, and even then the amount of charge it puts out will be a trickle at best. Baseus pulls out all the stops with the PowerMega, offering up to 140w of charging at any one time, split across three ports - two USB C, and a single USB A.
This means that, if you wanted to, you could fast charge two individual devices at the same time using the USB C ports, with plenty of power left over for the remaining USB A slot. This is exactly the use case that I’ve used several times while testing it for review.
Upon arriving at a recent visit to a hotel, I found that both my iPhone 15 and my Macbook Air were running dangerously low on charge. After plugging both into the Baseus PowerMega for even just half an hour, they were both rejuvenated to the point where I could quite happily have used them both for work for the rest of the day. I was even able to use the USB A port to trickle charge an Apple Watch at the same time, providing plenty of juice to record a walk around the local area.
When I’ve been in these situations before, I’m usually left scrambling for a power bank and wresting with a rat's nest of cables bundled at the bottom of a bag. That wasn’t the case with the Baseus - its generous selection of ports and ridiculous charging speed completely took the stress out of the situation.
The only mark against the PowerMega for its travel capabilities is that, while still lighter than some other GaN chargers out there, it’s still rather heavy weighing in at 288 grams. It’s a relatively chunky size too, with prongs that don’t fold in and risk scratching other items in your tech bag. However, compared to a full-sized Macbook charger, it’s certainly preferable.
Full Steam ahead
The usefulness of the PowerMega isn’t just limited to travel, though. I’ve found that the PowerMega feels just at home plugged in next to my bed’s nightstand. Just like when travelling, I’ll usually keep my iPhone and Apple Watch plugged into the bottom two ports here - after all, fast charging isn’t essential when left on overnight.
Receiving a full 100w from the first USB C port, though, is usually my trusty Steam Deck OLED. This device was my favourite tech purchase of last year and has helped me finally wrangle my immense backlog while on the go.
The PowerMega has only worked hand-in-hand with this, as it allows me to keep the Steam Deck fully charged at all times. It can even provide enough power to the device to charge while also playing games, and while also charging up a couple of other devices at the same time.
With the popularity of handheld devices like the Steam Deck on the rise, I can see charging bricks like the PowerMega only becoming more popular as time goes by - and this offering from Baseus has certainly proven itself to be an ideal choice.
The Verdict
At $89.99, it’s certainly on the pricier side of charging bricks you can buy. However, if you’re someone who owns a lot of high-powered USB C devices, the PowerMega is worth its weight in gold.
As someone who travels a lot, being able to plug my devices in all at once, even for 30 minutes, and to see all of them skyrocket in battery life ready for my next stint of work has revolutionised the way I travel. I’d heartily recommend picking one up for anyone else who often finds themselves scrambling for a portable charger. As long as you’re frequently near a wall socket, this bad boy almost completely negates the need for portable power.
