Warhammer 40K is an iconic media franchise, known for its grim dark and satirical representation of fascist space empires, resulting in potentially the least fun universe to live in ever conceived.

With such a richly detailed canon to pull from, it's no wonder Warhammer 40K has seen a number of video game adaptions across various genres. One of the most highly anticipated games from the franchise is Space Marine 2, the sequel to a popular third-person shooter and hack-n-slash title from 2011.

We've known about the game for a while now, but if you're looking for all the information available, check out breakdown of the Warhammer 40K Space Marine 2 release window, trailers, gameplay, and more.

Warhammer 40K Space Marine 2 currently only has a release window of Winter 2023, meaning we don't know exactly when it's set to drop.

This likely places it in November or December, assuming it will release this year's side of Winter, as it could also come in January. We'll also update this section once we have a concrete release date.

Warhammer 40K Space Marine 2 trailers

There have been a number of Warhammer 40K Space Marine 2 trailers so far, ranging from straight CGI, to gameplay-focused.

The first trailer for the game was a CGI reveal trailer that debuted during The Game Awards 2021. It began with a shot of a planet obscured by fog, before zooming down into a massive gothic city as ships cut through the clouds.

Eventually, it revealed a conflict between the Tyranid hordes and human soldiers, which was swiftly interrupted when three space marines dropped down to slaughter the Tyranids. One of the marines pulled off their helmet toward the end as they looked out over the warring city, revealing them to be Captain Titus from the first game.

One of the next major showings came during The Game Awards 2022, where gameplay was first shown. It featured the protagonist Captain Titus fighting Tyranids in multiple locations, with a mix of third-person shooting and gory hack-and-slash combat.

The trailer from Summer Game Fest 2023 was much of the same, but it revealed that there would be a co-op campaign with up to three players, while showing similar gameplay scenes as the previous one.

Warhammer 40K Space Marine 2 gameplay

Much like the first game, Space Marine 2 is confirmed to be a third-person shooter and hack-n-slash game that follows Captain Titus dealing with the Tyranid invasion of a human settled planet.

While featuring similar gameplay to the first, it looks to have increased in scale massively, with some shots from trailers showing hundreds of Tyranids on-screen at once swarming toward the player. A scene in one trailer also appears to show the character jetting through some debris in space, meaning some sections may take place in zero gravity.

Shots from the first gameplay trailer also show artillery fire (presumably coming from allies' ships above the planet), which may suggest Titus can call in air support to help with enemies, or clear a way through the environment.

The gameplay trailers so far have shown no UI elements, so we're unsure if features like the Fury meter from the first will be making a return. We'll need to wait for an extended, or uncut, gameplay trailer to learn more about the exact mechanics at play.

Warhammer 40K Space Marine 2 platforms
