Silent Hill 2 is one of the most celebrated horror games of all time, so anticipation for the upcoming remake from Bloober Team and Konami is naturally very high.

Set to arrive at some point in 2024, the ground-up remake will see players once again step into the shoes of James Sunderland as he visits the town of Silent Hill. Here's everything we know about the game so far.

What platforms will Silent Hill 2 remake be on?

The upcoming Silent Hill 2 remake will be released on PC and PS5 as a timed console exclusive. After a year, there will be potential for it to appear on other consoles - although nothing has been confirmed yet.

Silent Hill 2 remake trailers

The teaser trailer for the Silent Hill 2 remake focused on cutscenes, showing off some iconic moments from the original game including a Pyramid Head encounter, meeting Maria, and entering the foggy town itself.

A combat trailer was shared during Sony's State of Play presentation in January 2024. As the title suggests, this video showed off the game's "improved and modernised" combat - which some fans found a little unusual as the original game was more about atmosphere than fighting.

What do we know about the plot?

As this is a remake, the plot will likely remain the same as the original. You'll take on the role of James Sunderland, who receives a letter from his wife Mary telling him to meet her in the creepy town of Silent Hill - three years after her death.

Inside the fog, you'll encounter terrifying creatures and mysterious humans as you try to figure out what's happening and discover the secrets behind Silent Hill.

Mateusz Lenart, Creative Director & Lead Designer at Bloober Team, said the team's goal is "to preserve the atmosphere that made Silent Hill 2 so exceptional, while also modernizing many aspects of the game’s overall gameplay".

What's different in the Silent Hill 2 remake?

One of the biggest changes in the Silent Hill 2 remake is that it will feature an over-the-shoulder perspective, as opposed to the various camera angles of the original. Anyone who's played the recent Resident Evil remakes will be familiar with this view.

The remake is being created in Unreal Engine 5 with Lumen and Nanite, meaning the visuals will be hugely improved over the original (which is now over two decades old). Bloober Team have teased "state-of-the-art motion capture sessions" which will also add realism to the game.

When it comes to the PS5 version of the game, 3D audio will be utilised as well as the DualSense controller's features like haptic feedback and adaptive triggers. Thanks to the console's SSD storage technology, there will also be no loading screens when exploring Silent Hill.

That's everything we know about the Silent Hill 2 remake right now, but we'll update this page when more gets revealed. In the meantime, take a look at our roundup of all the games coming out in 2024.
