Back 4 Blood Player Count: How Many People Play Back 4 Blood

The Back 4 Blood player count is an interesting topic, as it marks the return of the zombie shooter. How popular is Back 4 Blood and how many people play Back 4 Blood are the questions everyone is wondering, as the spiritual successor to the Left 4 Dead series settles after its launch week. As Back 4 Blood released on Xbox Game Pass, developer Turtle Rock Studios is hoping for yet another hit. Looking at the numbers we can delve into the Back 4 Blood player count and see exactly how many cleaners are slaying Ridden.

Turtle Rock Studios itself hasn’t unveiled the official player count for Back 4 Blood, so that has us turning to Steam. According to SteamDB, Back 4 Blood’s peak player count landed at 65,987 players. That is far higher than the original Left 4 Dead’s 30,616 players. However, how popular is Back 4 Blood in comparison to Left 4 Dead 2? 

While Back 4 Blood could certainly grow in popularity, it still pales in comparison to Left 4 Dead 2’s 162,399 player peak. Even looking at Back 4 Blood’s daily figures, which sit around 50,000 total and 20,000 concurrently, Left 4 Dead 2 is still bringing in around 25,000 each day. Not bad for a 13-year-old game.

It has to be said, however, that Back 4 Blood’s release has boosted Left 4 Dead 2’s popularity. Left 4 Dead 2 was also gifted by Valve to all Steam users in Christmas of 2013, resulting in its massive player peak. These figures also only indicate people playing Back 4 Blood on Steam. It does not include PC players playing on Xbox Game Pass or Xbox and PlayStation sales figures. 

A quick look over at Player Counter, an unofficial live data website, and it claims that Back 4 Blood has over 87,000 active players at the time of writing. That’s a huge increase in the Back 4 Blood player count if true. Back 4 Blood Player Count: Twitch Viewership Numbers

With some solid in-game numbers, Back 4 Blood is also performing decently on Twitch. According to TwitchTracker, in the last seven days (October 11th, 2021 to October 17th) Back 4 Blood became the 13th most popular game on the streaming platform. With an average of 52,625 viewers, Back 4 Blood launched behind Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and ahead of Roblox. However, the Back 4 Blood closed beta almost doubled this figure with 98,024 concurrent players. We can also see that the Back 4 Blood Twitch figures are steadily declining post-launch, which could indicate the game has peaked already.

The Back 4 Blood player count is solid, but it doesn’t secure the game’s future. The game boasts endless replayability through the best Back 4 Blood cards, however, Turtle Rock Studios needs to produce new content to keep players invested.  

Turtle Rock Studios has announced that new characters will be available in future updates, as well as new Ridden for Swarm mode (multiplayer PvP). These additional characters can be bought with in-game credits as well as real-world money, but who knows where they'll place on the best Back 4 Blood characters list. Purchased content will also be spread across squads so not to separate teams.
