During the Ubisoft Forward Showcase Event 2022, we learned of several upcoming Assassin's Creed titles that are in development. Out of all of them, Assassin's Creed Codename Hexe is almost certainly the most intriguing. Assassin's Creed Codename Hexe looks to be a much darker entry to the franchise, set to revolve around the Witch Trials that happened during the Holy Roman Empire. Continue reading our guide to learn about the Assassin's Creed Codename Hexe platforms, trailers, and other gameplay details.

At the time of writing, Assassin's Creed Codename Hexe has no official release date or window. Among the listed upcoming Assassin's Creed games, only Assassin's Creed Mirage has an official release window of 2023. Based on that, we can only speculate when we might finally see Hexe released.

We also don't know which platforms Assassin's Creed Codename Hexe may release on. Ubisoft is one of the few development studios pushing new titles on both previous and current gen platforms. However, with Hexe seemingly a long way off, it's likely that Ubisoft will only release the game on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

Assassin's Creed Codename Hexe Trailers

So far, we have only one trailer for Assassin's Creed Codename Hexe, and it's the announcement trailer that Ubisoft revealed during their Ubisoft Forward 2022 Showcase event. This is a cinematic trailer set during nighttime in a dense, withered forest. The trailer starts with a leaf falling out of a tree, and then the focus shifts toward a hanging Assassin's Creed logo made with tiny sticks. What's important to note here are the references that point to witchcraft:

  • An Assassin's Creed logo made out of sticks looks like an effigy.
  • The title has a magic circle in the background.
  • The German word "Hexe" translates to Witch.

There are no official gameplay details available on Assassin's Creed Codename Hexe just yet. We know from a recent Bloomberg report that Assassin's Creed Codename Hexe is set "during the latter stages of the Holy Roman Empire and revolves around witch trials".

In an interview with IGN, Marc-Alexis Côté, the current vice president and executive producer of the Assassin's Creed franchise, confirmed that "Assassin's Creed Codename Hexe, the second game for Infinity, will not be an RPG." He says this will "bring more diversity to the places we choose to visit and how we choose to represent those periods." So, players shouldn't expect RPG elements with Assassin's Creed Codename Hexe's gameplay like we saw in Origins, Odyssey and Valhalla.

Which Ubisoft Studio Is Developing Assassin's Creed Codename Hexe?

While Ubisoft Quebec is handling the development of Assassin's Creed Codename Red, Ubisoft Montreal is currently working on Assassin's Creed Codename Hexe. That's the same studio that gave us other hits in the series like the original Assassin's Creed and Black Flag.
