The Call of Duty franchise is one that's (literally) on the go, as Warzone Mobile moves the battle royale favourite into a new era. Like the success of Call of Duty: Mobile, the clue is in the name, with Warzone Mobile taking the console and PC counterpart, shrinking it down, and fitting it on our phones.
While Warzone Mobile is a whole different beast from its bigger brother, that's one of its big selling points. The 2020 Warzone might've been overhauled at Warzone 2.0 and eventually cannibalised the OG, but it's still plagued with the same complaints of cheaters, bugs, and buy-to-win greed.
Warzone Mobile is hot out of the gate
Getting a leg over the competition, Warzone Mobile takes us back to the heady days of Verdansk, with the original Warzone map finding a new home inside our phones. Considering its console counterpart has shied away from bringing back the GOAT, it's been a big pull for players.
Having only gone live on March 21, Warzone Mobile is still a foetus in terms of games. Still, enough time has passed to get a first look at its financials. According to Pocket Gamer, Warzone Mobile has netted an impressive $1.4 million in just four days.
There's also revenue from March 20 because the mobile game launched early in some territories. That early launch reportedly netted an extra $200k, bringing Warzone Mobile to $1.6 million across five days. This means that since its soft launch in December 2022, Warzone Mobile has a lifetime revenue of $2.2 million.
In terms of the biggest markets, the popularity of the main Warzone in the USA accounts for 47% of Warzone Mobile's spending (around $1.1 million). Chile comes way behind this with 9% ($202,500), followed by Austria and Germany tying in third place with 8% of the game's total revenue ($360,000 between the two).
It's good, but it's no CoD: Mobile
This data comes courtesy of AppMagic and shows that Warzone Mobile is off to a good start. However, it's quite the drop compared to Call of Duty: Mobile. Tencent's Timi Studio launched CoD: Mobile in October 2019, generating a jaw-dropping $4.2 million in just four days.
CoD: Mobile is a game that's stood the test of time, and as well as seeing us through lockdown, it developed a strong esports community. Activision claims that the title has generated more than $3 billion and now boasts half of all Call of Duty engagement.
With Call of Duty: Mobile such a smash, it's no surprise Warzone Mobile recorded 50 million pre-registrations. Now that both are out there in the wild, it remains to be seen whether Warzone Mobile can avoid the mistakes of its siblings while also cashing in on the lucrative mobile market.
