Go web, go. While superhero games were once panned as effectively being the video game movie of the industry, the genre has arguably jumped the shark since Rocksteady's Arkham trilogy. Up there with the best, Insomniac's Spider-Man was a colourful counterpart to the Caped Crusader's brooding adventures.

With Spider-Man 2 officially on the way, there are high hopes the sequel will outshine its predecessor and 2020's Miles Morales. Much like Miles' solo outing, Spider-Man 2 will be a PlayStation 5 exclusive, that is currently targeting a 2023 release. Being a new-gen exclusive means Spider-Man 2 should be a beautiful beast to behold, but just imagine if it was built in Unreal Engine 5.

What Does Spider-Man Look Like In Unreal Engine 5?

The future of gaming is in Unreal Engine 5, and from what little we've seen, it's baffling to see how far we've come from the pixelated days of Super Mario Bros. and the early days of home gaming. Using the Epic Games' The Matrix Awakens Project City, YouTuber dwr has built their own Spider-Man game.

Using assets from Lewis Fiford's Spider-Man Unreal Engine 4 project, dwr has ported Peter Parker into Megacity. Complete with animations, we get to see the wall-crawling hero swing into action and save the day. If you want to play, you can download the Unreal Engine 5 Spider-Man demo - be warned though, it'll probably fry your PC like it's been struck by Electro.

Epic is encouraging creativity with Unreal Engine 5 and letting anyone take hold of the demo to build until their heart's content. Back when it released, Epic wrote: "With this release, we aim to empower both large and small teams to really push the boundaries of what’s possible, visually and interactively. UE5 will enable you to realize next-generation real-time 3D content and experiences with greater freedom, fidelity, and flexibility than ever before."

What Do We Know About Spider-Man 2?

Even if Spider-Man 2 won't be built in Unreal Engine 5, we're guessing it'll look suitably snazzy. When Miles Morales hit the PS5, we had a remastered version of the OG Spider-Man and capabilities like ray-tracing and a 60 FPS performance mode. Despite the fact we've only seen a cinematic trailer, things are looking pretty promising for Spider-Man 2

Bringing Miles and Peter together, the main story of Spider-Man 2 sees the pair go against Tony Todd's Venom. Elsewhere, we've heard a tease of Kraven the Hunter, and could see Norman Osborn step up as the villainous Green Goblin following his post-credit tease. While we wait for Insomniac to deliver more info on Spider-Man 2, we're left dreaming about what an Unreal Engine 5 game will look like. Well, maybe for the inevitable Spider-Man 3, eh?
