It's been a tense few weeks for Treyarch and Raven Software as their marketing campaign for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War has kicked things up a notch. After some lacklustre reveals within Call of Duty: Warzone and plenty of leaks, Activision has put 2020's CoD title in its crosshairs, With a huge reveal promised for today (August 26), the first trailer didn't disappoint.

Warning players that they'll need to know their history, the trailer unveiled Black Ops Cold War's main campaign and headed behind the Iron Curtain for what could be the most ambitious Call of Duty game yet. Instead of the usual fictionalised approach to Call of Duty, this one is inspired by actual events - meaning you might need to revisit your high school history classes and brush up on the epic clash between the United States of America and the Soviet Union.

Black Ops was a huge hit when it came out in 2010 as the seventh instalment in the Call of Duty franchise. Alongside this, there was the equally popular Call of Duty: Black Ops โ€“ Zombies spinoff. Given the fan-favourite status of Black Ops, it no surprise Treyarch, Raven Software, and Activision wanted to revisit it for 2020's landmark entry.

That being said, Treyarch has vowed to work closer than ever with Infinity Ward, meaning there should be some serious crossover with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. This has already become apparent thanks to Warzone playing into Cold War's marketing campaign and promises it will be a "continuation" of Modern Warfare

After the mixed reception of 2018's Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 and controversy of not having a campaign, let's hope its business as usual with Cold War. Now we know a little more about what to expect, us trigger-happy players have to wait just a little longer to head into the conflict of the past. Wrap up warm because it's sure to be chilly out there in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War.
