Update: August 1, 2023:

A representative from Hasbro has offered an official statement on behalf of the company.

“To clarify, comments that suggest TRANSFORMERS games have been lost were made in error," the statement reads.

"We apologize to Activision and regret any confusion; they’ve been great partners, and we look forward to future opportunities to work together.”

Original story follows:

Old Transformers games from the Xbox 360 era may have been lost to time as Hasbro say Activision doesn't know which hard drive the games are stored on.

The Microsoft acquisition of Activision could bring games which have seemingly been forgotten to Xbox Game Pass. The merger will allow Game Pass to access Activision and Blizzard titles, including titles like Transformers: The Game and Transformers: Fall of Cybertron.

The Xbox 360 Transformers games are on a lost hard drive

Transformers was at peak popularity during the Xbox 360 era and multiple games were produced as a result.

Hasbro, the producer of Transformers, is hopeful that the Microsoft merger with Activision will allow the games to resurface and be published on Game Pass for more people to be able to engage with them.

Unfortunately, it seems that the games may have been lost to time as Activision is unsure which hard drive they are on.

In an interview with Transformers World, a member of the Hasbro team said: “Sadly, apparently Activision’s not sure what hard drives they’re on in their building. When a company eats a company that eats a company things get lost, and that’s very frustrating.

“Hope is that now that the deal is moving forward with Microsoft and Xbox that they’ll go through all of the archives and every hard drive to find it all, because it’s an easy Game Pass add. We want those games back up for people to have a chance to play.”

As it stands, Transformers: War for Cybertron (2010), Transformers: Fall of Cybertron (2012), Transformers: Rise of the Dark Spark (2014), and Transformers: Devastation (2015) are unavailable to purchase digitally and can only be played using a physical disk.

What’s next for the Transformers franchise?

Transformers: Reactivate, a 1-4 player online action game was announced in December 2022 at The Game Awards.

The game, which is being developed by Splash Damage, will be available on PC and consoles, with a closed beta planned for later in 2023.

The Hasbro team told Transformers World: “We definitely want to partner with video game companies, clearly Nintendo partnered with Lego and they made a Nintendo system, or there was the Super Nintendo Transformer at one point in Japan, like we would love to be able to do something along those lines. Any company out there, like I don’t know, a partnership with Sega, a partnership with Microsoft or something, Sony – even just to make a Playstation, would be awesome.”

Hasbro is clearly very open to more video game collaborations so it is not unlikely that we will see more of them in the next few years.
