Tony Hawk Confirms Pro Skater 3 + 4 Remasters Were Canned
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 + 2 was just the return to form for skating games that we needed. The Pro Skater series was seriously suffering, with its fifth instalment being a buggy and broken mess that left long-term fans feeling as though the series was as good as finished forever.
Then, we got the remasters we'd been waiting for from Vicarious Visions, which shot a jolt of life into the series that genuinely raised hope for the future of the skating game. Then, fans set their sights on what came next - the third and fourth game. Sadly, it looks like remasters for Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 + 4 might never come.
Are Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 + 4 Remasters On The Way?
It looks like the string of Pro Skater remasters end here - and we know because the man himself told us. During a Twitch livestream, Tony Hawk revealed that remasters for Pro Skater 3 + 4 were once in development, but it's no longer the case.
Citing mergers between development teams, Hawk blamed the fact that Activision Blizzard has consumed Vicarious Visions as the reason we won't be enjoying Pro Skater 3 + 4. Hawk says the merger left Vicarious Vision's projects behind - taking a hit it couldn't recover from.
"[Activision] were trying to find someone to do 3 and 4, but they just didn't really trust anyone the way they [trusted] Vicarious," he said."So they took other pitches from other studios, 'what would you do with the THPS title?' And they didn't like anything they heard, and then that was it." How bleak.
Even Tony Hawk Is Sad That Pro Skater 3 + 4 Are Dead
Fans were incredibly excited by the concept of another Pro Skater remaster - but it looks to be dead in the water. It's not just us that's mardy about what could have been - it looks like Hawk himself is pretty upset too. "I wish there was some way to bring it back," he adds. "When the dust settles, we'll figure it out."
He seems eager to pick the project up again if the opportunity arises, but sadly, we're not likely to see the game we want at all, let alone any time soon. Vicarious has moved on to other things, so sorry, skating fans - maybe that wait for Skate 4 is about to feel a little longer.
