Oh Elden Ring, you're a cruel mistress. For those of you who've sunk tens of hours into FromSoftware's epic saga and still are no closer to beating the Elden Lord, you're likely looking for anything to make your playthrough a little easier. It turns out though, killing a key NPC can actually make it a lot harder.

While the Lands Between are littered with all the usual Jade Goblins, Raya Lucaria Sorcerers, Marionette Gargoyles and Godskin Apostles, there is also a colourful crop of Elden Ring NPCs to keep you busy away from the main mission of defeating the Shardbearers. Whether it's Sorceress Sellen or Alexander the Iron Fist, the doomed Turtle Pope or War Counselor Iji, each has an important story to tell.

Should You Kill Blackguard Big Boggart In Elden Ring?

You could always ask for absolution or atonement for the sins at the Church of Vows, but for some NPCs, killing them early can have devastating consequences. Although the Blackguard Big Boggart might not seem as crucial as someone like Mistwood Ruins' Blaidd, he can be a handy helper in getting you past those early bosses that will consume hours of playtime and that haunting "You Died" screen.

On Reddit, u/Agreeable-Ad6769 reminds you to take care of the Blackguard Big Boggart, meaning you shouldn't kill him or let him die. Given that some of us have grown accustomed to hacking and slashing our way through anyone and everyone that crosses our path, it can be a hard lesson to learn. Importantly, the Blackguard Big Boggart is a helpful merchant that sells you Boiled Prawns.

The Blackguard Big Boggart will sell Boiled Prawns as early as Liurnia of the Lakes, which can give you a much-needed boost to conquer the Raya Lucaria legacy dungeon. If you consume Boiled Prawns or their upgraded Boiled Crab variant, it will boost the Tarnished's physical defence for a limited amount of time. Knowing how easy it is to die early on, Boiled Prawns can stop those deadly one-hits from being a one-way trip to the grave.

Is The Blackguard Big Boggart Really That Important?

The OP isn't alone in their love for him, with one redditor writing: "His consumables are really useful man give it a try. The crab is like -35% physical damage and costs like 800 or 1200 runes." Another added: "Killing this guy is like killing off patches you'll regret it later on once you know what this guy could have done for you while he was alive. This guy does have an attitude towards you when you first talk to him but that's simply cause he don't know you which is fair."

At least one player gave him a tragic end, as they wrote, "I killed him because a finger ready oracle lady on the bridge said a riddle, and I swore it meant kill this guy." Be warned, you'll also need to complete the Blackguard Big Boggart's quest before you reach Volcano Manor. If you are intent on killing him to gain access to merch at the Twin Maiden Husks, at least get what you need from him first. Okay, so the Blackguard Big Boggart isn't exactly a cornerstone of Elden Ring lore - just more of a leg-up on your trip around this rancid realm. Still, he's one of the few good ones.
