The New PlayStation Subscription Service Is A Middle Finger To PC Players
Well, Project Spartacus has finally arrived.
The Game Pass competitor that PlayStation has had in the works for some time has been revealed, and even for the most dedicated of PlayStation fans, it falls incredibly short.
There are a lot of promises with a lot of big numbers on show in the initial reveal, but the drastic lack of day one releases makes the service feel less like a competitor and more like a separate step into gaming subscriptions, which feels lacklustre in the shadow of Xbox's foray.
And as it turns out, the deal is even worse for PC players.
PC Players Are Set To Pay Double For PlayStation Plus
The new rehaul of PS Plus comes with three new tiers of pricing to coincide with the three levels of subscription - Essential, Extra, and Premium. Each comes with different perks, and they all come in June when the new sweep of content is set to join the service. But, there's a massive catch for players on PC.
The only tier of the new PS Plus that allows players to play PS4 and PS5 games on PC via streaming on PS Now is the premium tier, which comes in at a whopping £99.99 ($119.99) a year.
Previously, players could simply subscribe to PS Now without the need for joining PS Plus at only £49.99 ($59.99) a year, meaning that the price has now doubled for players who want to stream on PC.
It's an outrageous change that is either a spiteful shift for PC players or a whopping mistake - either way, PC players are deeply unhappy about it.
Fans React To PC's PS Plus Change
Fans have taken to Twitter to air their disdain for the ridiculous change, and they're incredibly frustrated about it. Doubling the price of their streaming has not gone down well.
The huge change has rubbed a lot of fans the wrong way and for pretty good reason. PC players might need to dream up a new plan for streaming - because PS Now on PC just became unviable for a lot of players. Game Pass, anyone?
