Most will agree Ubisoft is having a bit of a moment right now. Like many others, the gaming giant seems to be having some troubles - not just because Skull & Bones is in something of a bizarre limbo.

Ubisoft has confirmed the codenamed Project Q has been cancelled, and so has a rumoured Watch Dogs battle royale game. As the rest of the gaming industry seems to be imploding, many fear the worst for the franchises under the Ubisoft banner.

And it looks like fans were right to be concerned, as another hugely anticipated game looks to have gone under.

Ubisoft May Not Be Working On The Division 3

Though it's not everyone's cup of tea, Ubisoft's The Division has remained massively supported with a strong player base, as fans have waited for The Division 2 to wind down in favour of a rumoured sequel. But, it looks like that sequel isn't happening.

As reported by Insider Gaming (take it with a pinch of salt), leakers "close to the company" have suggested that there aren't any plans for The Division 3. Ubisoft could instead focus its attention on The Division Resurgence, which is a mobile entry into the series that is already conducting playtests.

This may come as pretty sad news to fans of the series, especially those who were holding out for a mainline sequel - but thankfully, it doesn't look like the franchise is over just yet.

The Division: Heartland Is Supposedly Still Coming

The Division isn't quite dead on console just yet, as its free-to-play spin-off - called The Division: Heartland - is still on the way and slated for release at some point in 2023.

The game describes itself as "a free-to-play multiplayer survival-action shooter set in a fictional rural community in Middle America." It sees you play as a Division agent answering a distress call in a bold mystery.

Heartland will have PvP and PvE elements to recapture the multiplayer aspects of The Division's Dark Zone, but we're missing a classic single-player experience that The Division 3 could've brought. Heartland still sounds like fun, and thankfully, it means that the entirety of the franchise hasn't tanked yet. Yet.
