Nintendo has a few franchises it doesn't really know what to do with. We were given F-Zero 99, but does that mean we had a proper F-Zero Game. Where exactly is Chibi-Robo, and do we even need to mention The Legendary Starfy? We miss you, Starfy. Come back to us.
One of these franchises left in the lurch is Star Fox, a series that failed to impress on the Wii U with Star Fox Zero, and has been pretty quiet ever since. Now, one leaker suggests that a Star Fox revival isn't as far off as we might think.
Zippo claims Star Fox revival is just around the corner
Reputable Nintendo leaker Zippo has a new blog post to remind fans that the Star Fox revival is indeed still on the way. More than this, they claim it might not be as far off as we'd previously expected. The implication is that Star Fox could be about to go from zero to 100 pretty quick.
Zippo shared a collection of evidence that the Star series is gearing up for an announcement, including a renewed trademark in Brazil from December 2023, and a brand-new trademark from November to go along with one for Princess Peach. This was presumably to keep Nintendo covered for the release of Princess Peach: Showtime!.
It's compelling evidence, and eight years after Star Fox Zero failed to soar high, it certainly seems to point towards a project in the works. Then again, we could be in for another 99 game, and frankly, we could do without being teased by it.
New Star Fox reportedly coming within the year
Zippo adds some extra details in the post, claiming that this is the first game in the Star Fox series to be developed internally since Star Fox 64, but also, that it appears to be a sequel to an existing game in the series. Best yet, it will apparently be on store shelves within the next 12 months.
The only whiff of Star Fox we've had is the original designer saying he'd want in on a Star Fox movie, as well as rumours that a Smash Bros. movie could bring Fox McCloud to the party. Zippo's claims are pretty big, and now, we're going to have to see if Nintendo will confirm them. Just to be clear, a February Direct would go down a treat.
