A cryptic tweet from the official Spyro Twitter account has fans wondering whether a new game featuring the beloved purple dragon could be coming out this year.

Though the Spyro franchise hasn’t received much attention over the last few years, rumours of a fourth game instalment have been circulating for quite a while.

A teasing tweet from the Spyro Twitter account has sparked rumours of a new game in 2024

A seemingly innocuous tweet from the official Spyro The Dragon Twitter account has sparked excitement that a new game could be coming at some point in the year.

The account tweeted a picture of Spyro with the phrase “You gotta believe” written next to the popular dragon.

However, it wasn’t the image that sparked hope but the text accompanying it, which simply said “2024 motto”.

There hasn’t been any new Spyro releases since the 2018 Spyro Reignited Trilogy which was a remaster of the first three games in the franchise.

The release was received positively, with over 10 million copies sold as of 2023, and only increased the desire for an entirely new game even more.

Leaks have previously suggested that Spyro 4, reportedly titled ‘Spyro 4: Mystery of the Dragon’, is going to be released in Q4 of 2024, however the same leaks said it would be announced in October last year which was, tragically, not the case.

Fans are hoping for some new content featuring their favourite purple dragon later this year

Naturally the concept of believing in Spyro being the motto for 2024 made fans of the franchise think that something could be coming up on the horizon.

“I believe in a Spyro 4 2024 release,” wrote one hopeful Spyro fan.

Another said: “You guys know it's the year of the dragon now, so you better have something cooked up and not a dlc for a Crash game, but a standalone Spyro game!”

Other people have convinced themselves that this has been on the calendar for a while, as the platinum trophy for Spyro: Year of the Dragon is called "Party like it's 2024."

Of course, there is a chance that the achievement and tweet are only referencing the fact that it is the Year of the Dragon this year, which is an occasion that only comes around once every 12 years, and therefore there is a link between Spyro and the date.

That won’t stop us hoping that a new release could be around the corner though.
