Space Marine 3 Potential Faction

The shooter genre feels pretty saturated these days, and while Call of Duty aims to be faster than ever with its sweaty omnimovement, Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 is slowing things down. This Gears of War-inspired gameplay sings as we mush Tyranids into the ground.

As a sequel to Relic Entertainment's Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine from 2011, the story picks up with returning protagonist Titus, forced to face a new threat some 200 years after we last saw him. Although Space Marine 2 feels like a suitable conclusion to Titus' story, that doesn't mean things have to end here.

Space Marine 2 hints at Necrons for Space Marine 3

Space Marine 2's story has other races like the Eldar, Necrons, Tau Empire, and even the forces of Chaos concerned with the Terminid threat. Could one of these also be our next big foe in a potential Space Marine 3? As pointed out by IGN, there are some not-so-subtle hints at where we go next.

Space Marine 2 ends with an all-out war between the Ultramarines, Tyranids, and the Thousand Suns Traitor Legion. Having bested the Orks in the first game and banishing another faction in Space Marine 2, fans seem convinced that the robotic Necrons are next to emerge from the shadows.

During one mission where Titus heads to a Necron Tomb World, you might spot a mural dedicated to the Necrons on the wall. There’s also a dataslate audio log that worryingly foreshadows how Nercon contrcuts Necron have been killing Techpriests. Eagle-eyed fans might be able to spot what looks like a Canoptek Tomb Stalker.

Sh*t goes down when a Techpriest tries to use a Necron artefact to close off the hellish warp that's spewing Chaos, but unfortunately, his plan goes wrong. Either way, it isn't hard to connect the dots that the Necrons could be a major influence in a Space Marine threequel.

Others agreed, with someone else adding, "I mean the entire last chapter has u going in a tomb world filled with Necron buildings and such and a bunch of Necron tech so yea its a major hint that either it will be the dlc or for the next game."

Some are worried that mention of a "new enemy type" on the game's roadmap could bring Necrons to the fold. Another added, "I REALLY hope they continue to support this in DLC / Seasons with new campaign/enemy factions/classes, and not just add a "new enemy type" to an existing faction. I wouldn't be able to wait until SM3. Just take my cash."

Saber Interactive has promised there's more to come from the world of Space Marine, and with the game's cliffhanger ending teasing a bold new direction, there could be anything coming our way. Part of us hopes we won't have to wait until the inevitable Space Marine 3 to see those rotten robots causing trouble.
