Space Goblin Studio has just revealed its debut game, as Astrobotanica hopes to blend the standard tropes of survival and exploration with...wait for it...plant wizardry. For those green-fingered gamers, you can step out into the unknown and practice for the next neighbourhood gardening competition.
Coming to Steam Early Access in 2025, Astrobotanica is a "lush open-world survival adventure" that transports us to a prehistoric Earth. An alien botanist sets out on a mission to save their dying planet of Aya but inadvertently crash-lands here instead.
Astrobotanica's first trailer is all about green-fingered fun
Set during Earth's Pleistocene era, some 300,000 years ago, you play as Xel, a highly intelligent little alien who has plenty of green-fingered credentials. Although Xel's mission has been to catalogue planets with rich flora, they're now forced to survive in this CO2-deficient atmosphere.
With Earth against them, Xel has to find planet species that will thrive on Aya and navigate the wild animals and primal humans of the time period. The first Astrobotinica trailer gives us a peek at what to expect, with the adorable title showcasing a bigger message about saving the planet (not just ours).
Hyping Space Goblin's first outing, founder Arkadiusz Woźniak says, "Astrobotanica is a game we've always wanted to play...I hope to bring new life to the survival genre by combining innovative gameplay with familiar themes."
With high hopes that Astrobotanica will become a "remarkable title" thanks to player support, Woźniak has also teased the potential of future co-op. The Space Goblin Studio team boasts some impressive talent, with developers having worked on franchises including Dead Island, Dying Light, and Green Hell.
Hoping to further development beyond the promised co-op, the devs want to engage closely with fans to ensure relevance and playability while conveying a bigger, meaningful message. Astrobotanica is currently able to wishlist via Steam.
