If there's one genre that consistently gets hugely successful games from seemingly nowhere every other month - it's open-world survival titles.

Rust, Valheim, Palworld, and recently Enshrouded have all seen big success during their early access periods, and now Soulmask can join those ranks after registering 100,000 sales just days on from its May 31 launch.

Soulmask sees massive success with early access launch

Soulmask developers, CampFire Studios, revealed in a Steam blog that the early access launch was a huge success, with the game selling over 100,000 copies in just a day.

It dove further into the stats during the blog, with Soulmask taking only four hours to reach second on Steam's global bestseller list, while topping the paid game charts in the USA, UK, Canada, Germany, France, and more.

Since then, the game's page has reached a Very Positive rating, with 80% of players recommending the game at the time of writing.

It also went on to set an all-time player peak of 38,746 players on the Sunday following its launch. It's currently only 10,000 below that peak in the middle of a Monday, so we expect it could top its record already sometime this week.

What is Soulmask?

Soulmask is your typical open-world survival game in a few ways with all the crafting and scavenging you'd expect to let you build weapons, tools, bases, and more.

However, it differs with a key mechanic that lets you use your Soulmask to possess any NPC you come across, allowing you to utilise their skills and abilities for your survival needs.

Each NPC in the world is completely unique, with their own name, personality, and traits that set them apart. This adds a new level of strategy to things that are often simple, meaning you may not want to use your dedicated hunter character for crafting, or your expert builder for fighting.

Aside from controlling these NPCs with your mask, you can also make them a part of your tribe to help with protection or resource generation, so don't worry about losing track of your brightest and best.
