Frankly, SEGA's social media team is fantastic. The company best-known for bringing the fastest hedgehog in the universe to homes across the globe has embraced just how stupid social media is - steering into strange Gen Z humour better than most other corporations.
The official Sonic the Hedgehog Twitter account is a particularly notable example, roasting fans and not being afraid to get silly, while earning a reputation that led to a genuine sadness when the social media worker who ran the account for some time finally left his role. Not many social media accounts can garner such love, but Sonic managed it.
SEGA Tells Its Fans That They're Hot.
SEGA is getting a little weirder, and now, fans can't decide if they like it or not. Um… thanks? In a strange tweet, SEGA has officially announced that people who enjoy and play SEGA games are hot. That's it. That's the tweet
The Tweet itself is succinct, and gamers can't decide if SEGA being horny on Main is a sincere compliment or whether it's just trying to rope in the more self-indulgent masses of Twitter to pre-order Sonic Origins under the pretence it'll make them more attractive than they'd be if they hadn't.
Either way, it seems to have worked, because the tweet has garnered 17.3k retweets, 2.6k quote tweets and 133k likes at the time of writing. Maybe gaming companies need to shower their fans with compliments more often?
SEGA Team Reacts To Bizarre Tweet
Plus, the voice actor for Dr Eggman has replied to the original tweet saying that "more fans keep us cool." Bless.
It's not just fans that are confused and a little flattered - as some people who have been involved in the production of SEGA games over the years have chimed in on Twitter. Hideki Naganuma, composer of Jet Set Radio has replicated the SEGA tweet, telling his fans that they're hot. It's not out of the blue for his Twitter, given the unbelievably thirsty posts he throws out on the daily.
It's nice that SEGA is paying tribute to fans, though it's a little bit weird in execution. Then again, we'll take a compliment where we can these days. We always knew we liked SEGA.
