In many ways, Sonic Mania brought the franchise back from the brink.

After years of desperately clamouring to keep up (and failing) in a world of 3D, Sonic Mania brought the focus right back to the joys of the 2D worlds of old, running fast and tearing through foes like a bolt of lightning. It was a refreshing return to form and a reminder that sometimes, old actually is better.

And it looks like SEGA was taking notes because a brand-new collection of remasters is on the way.

Sonic Origins Has Been Officially Revealed

After a couple of days of leaks and rumours, it has finally been confirmed that a new collection of remastered Sonic titles are on the way in the form of Sonic Origins.

The game's trailer has been posted to the official Sonic The Hedgehog Twitter account, revealing that the game comes packaged with full remasters of Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic CD, Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and Sonic 3 & Knuckles

The game is coming with the option to play as Sonic, Tails or Knuckles in each of the games, and judging by the trailers, the remastered titles look absolutely fantastic.

Sonic Origins is currently set to be released on June 23, 2022, and is coming to all major consoles - Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, along with the Epic Games Store and Steam for PC.

The game looks like extraordinary fun, and if the way that Sonic Mania is anything to go on, then Sonic Origins is bound to be something special. It's about time that the classic titles got some love for new-gen consoles, and 2D Sonic is finally getting his widespread comeback. It's about time.
