Unlike instant success survival games such as Minecraft and Ark: Survival Evolved, Rust has been much more of a slow burner, appealing to the more adventurous and open-minded gamers. With a very basic graphics card which actually compliments its primitive and bucolic gameplay, Rust has seen an influx of growth over the years and has spiked again due to a huge pool of streamers collaborating on servers.
First released in 2015, many people are only just finding out about the PC Game. In its first two weeks, 150,000 copies were sold, gradually increasing over its lifetime. By the end of 2015, it had amounted 3 million copies sold, 5.2 million by March 2017, and as of December 2019, 9 million players had loaded up the realm.
Its recent success is partly thanks to 50 of the most know streamers in the world, including Félix "xQc" Lengyel, Rachell "Valkyrae" Hofstetter, Corpse Husband, Imane "Pokimane" Anys, Ali "Myth" Kabbani, Michael "Shroud" Grzesiek and more.
OfflineTV hosted a stacked lobby where players had been on the land with the sole intentions of having fun in whichever means they found. Whether this was building a palace fit for a king, creating a homely village for friends to relax, or becoming a hunter of men, the server had everything to suit the tastes of the indifferent personalities.
It now appears others want a slice too.
Rust has hit a new concurrent player record, alongside smashing their own Twitch viewership records day upon day. Following the success of the OfflineTV server, over 200,000 have been concurrently playing the game.
As you can see from the graphics, Rust is most popular in American time zones and peaked yesterday (January 7) at 203,795 active players at one time. This follows just three days after their Twitch viewership peaked at over 1,000,000 viewers for the first time in its history.
OfflineTV and friends still have their active server, although they have now started to branch out to another survival game: Raft.
