Circumstances have really put a strain on the development of Stalker 2. The Ukrainian development team has been struggling since the Russian invasion of the country in February, and has since been very vocal about support for their homeland.

As well as changing the game's name from Heart of Chernobyl to Heart of Chornobyl (the Ukrainian spelling) GSC Game World has tried to relocate to Prague for safety amidst the ongoing violence in the country. While it has cut ties with Russia in the face of war, the game faces another challenge from its invaders.

According to a report by the RIA Novosti news agency, it looks like the website for Stalker 2 has been restricted by the Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation. This move has made the site completely inaccessible in Russia, which is likely in response to the Stalker 2 team and site being outwardly in support of Ukraine's efforts to resist the Russian invasion.

The game's official site had been displaying messages of support for Ukraine, with GSC Game World ceasing its Russian operations in March and putting Stalker 2 on indefinite hold. Well, it had bigger things to worry about other than releasing the game.

As the game's team relocates to Prague from their Kyiv offices, it's safe to assume that the title will remain on hold (as it was announced to be as the invasion began) until all of the team are safely relocated, and they're able to think of anything other than simply being safe.

Stalker 2 is still slated for a release in December, but given the change in circumstances for the team, we wouldn't be surprised, nor irritated, if the game was delayed to the same time next year. The team's primary focus has to be their safety - and if we have to wait a little longer for the game, so be it.

Sadly, Stalker 2 has had a difficult development, with this site-blocking standing as another kick. Chances are, the game will be met with widespread support. Stalker 2 is still coming, no matter when - and we'll be here with open arms for when it does.
