Evil is coming home, as the long-awaited Resident Evil Village DLC has finally emerged from the ooze. The end of 2021's eighth main entry set up the future of the franchise, but before we get to Resident Evil 9, we've got the Shadows of Rose DLC to enjoy.

If you haven't played Village yet, you should probably turn back now. The second entry in the Winters Trilogy brought back Ethan Winters to Resident Evil and cast him into this gothic nightmare full of vampires, werewolves, and... giant Transformers. Although the story ended with Ethan sacrificing himself to save Rose, the game's epilogue picked up 16 years later with his superpowered daughter facing an uncertain future.

What Is The Resident Evil Village DLC?

Revealed at the June 13 Capcom Showcase, Shadows of Rose follows Rose 16 years after her father's death and struggling to come to terms with her powers. We're also returning to a third-person perspective for the first time since 2012's Resident Evil 6

Coming on October 28, Shadows of Rose follows Ms. Winters, who "has grown up and is now struggling with terrifying powers. In search of a way to break free from her curse, Rose enters the consciousness of the Megamycete. Rose's journey takes her to a mysterious realm where memories of the past return to create a warped and twisted world of nightmares." In this haunted realm, we see Rose come across a doppelganger of herself and what looks like an evil version of Village's usually friendly Duke. Yep, we're confused too.

The Resident Evil Village DLC also lands alongside the Gold Edition of the game, which comes out the same day on PS4 and PS5. The Gold Edition includes more playable characters for Mercenaries mode, meaning yes, you can finally play as Lady Alcina Dimitrescu. Presumably tying the DLC and base game together, Ethan's Village adventure will now be playable in third-person. Finally, the much-delayed Re:Verse will also launch on October 28.

Will There Be Another Resident Evil Village DLC?

Much like 2017's Resident Evil 7, we were promised a DLC was on the way. Back then, we actually had two in the form of the Not a Hero and End of Zoe DLCs. Given that it's taken so long to release Shadows of Rose, we're not entirely convinced there will be two Resident Evil Village DLCs. Then again, you could always surprise us and bring back Ada Wong.... fingers crossed.

We're also shocked that Shadows of Rose looks like a full-blown continuation of the epilogue. Many had expected a Lady Dimitrescu origin story, and given that the villainous vampire became the poster girl of the movie but felt underused in the main campaign, Capcom might've missed a trick here. Still, with Village continuing where the critically acclaimed RE7 left off, we're just glad we're getting more of this refreshed Resiverse.
