Resident Evil 4 has only just come out today. Can we have a go first, please, Capcom?

The long-awaited remake of the most iconic Resident Evil game (and maybe the most iconic horror game ever - but don't get us started) has finally touched down in the new gaming generation, and fans are scrambling to play it.

There's no doubt that treats lie in store, what with the remakes of Resident Evil 2 and 3 being perhaps the very best way to play the games, and Leon's European holiday promises to be the very best yet.

And thankfully, Capcom is a few steps ahead of us, dishing out more content before we're able to ask for it.

We've barely blinked as Leon yet, but already, we've got news on when the Resident Evil 4 Mercenaries mode will be dropping in the game.

Capcom has revealed that the challenge mode will be coming to the game in its own DLC pack, entirely for free, on April 7 for everyone who owns the game. The original game allowed for an unlock of the mode once you'd completed the core story, but at least Capcom aren't that far behind with this announcement.

It's great news for fans of the game, as by the time they've beaten the European excursion, there's every chance that Mercenaries will be waiting for them.

What is Resident Evil's Mercenaries mode?

For the uninitiated, Mercenaries is basically the arcade version of Resident Evil - it will drop you into an area of the game packed with enough weapons and ammo to gib your foes and calculates scores based on your kills. It's very much a 'shoot for a high score' kind of mode, but it's something that fans have always gravitated to after the gothic spooks of the core game have been toppled.

Though it may be encroaching on the original experience to bring Mercenaries post-launch, at least it's not far off at all. We're excited about it - just let us get through the game itself first.
