When it comes to the Resiverse, you'll be hard-pushed to find a better Resident Evil game than 2005's Resident Evil 4. Coming in that bizarre void when Resident Evil was tied to the GameCube, RE4 was a near-perfect masterpiece.

Emphasis on the "near-perfect" part. Much like when 2017's Resident Evil 7 went off the boil with a section on a wrecked tank ship, or Village with Heisenberg's factory, RE4 is remembered for its lacklustre Island section. Although the Island is back Resident Evil 4 remake, fingers crossed for a revamp.

Why Is Resident Evil 4 Keeping Its Island Section?

For those who don't know, RE4 is split into the Village, Castle, and Island sections. With the latter encompassing the title's endgame - alongside climactic fights with Krauser and Saddler - and the jet ski escape, it would've been pretty hard to remove it entirely.

Explaining what's on the way, the RE4 Remake devs told EDGE magazine (via Dusk Golem) how each of the three areas was handled by a smaller team before being brought together.

We've already seen bits of the Village and Castle segments, but with Capcom swerving around the Island, some questioned whether it would be completely overhauled for the remake.

Instead, we're told there's "a lot more to it," without the devs expanding on exactly what that means. Like it or lump it, it sounds like the Island section will be bigger than ever in 2023, but it gives Capcom a chance to improve it.

How Big Is The Resident Evil 4 Remake?

Capcom has made great strides in remaking its classic Resi games, with the 2019 remake of the second game being a particular triumph. Still, many thought 2020's Resident Evil 3: Nemesis still had the problems of the original by being too short.

RE4 sometimes felt a little disjointed due to its "Separate Ways" and "Ada's Reports" additions, while Mercenaries became a fan-favourite. We're told there will be more Ada and more horror this time around, so we're at least interested to see what can be done with the Island section.

You can keep all your new games in 2023, the Resident Evil 4 remake is already poised to be one of the year's biggest hits. With Capcom vowing to change those little niggles that held back the OG, we're excited to see what's on the horizon for Resident Evil 4.
