The PlayStation 5 event 'The Future of Gaming' on June 11 revealed new titles, new gameplay, and even more juicy new details of what's to come for the next-gen console.

The hour-and-a-bit-long showcase was broadcast on the official PlayStation Twitch and Youtube channels, and presented gameplay demos and sneak peeks at several new titles. as well as the console reveal itself. The hype is real.

Spiderman: Miles Morales

Spiderman: Miles Morales

Marvel has done it again. Miles reprises the iconic role of the web-slinger in Spiderman: Miles Morales. In the follow up to 2018's Spider-Man title, and [SPOILER ALERT] Miles is bitten by a radioactive spider at the end of the game and Peter Parker takes him under his wing, allowing this new title to be born. Miles Morales is due for release in Holiday 2020, in time for the launch of the PS5.

Gran Turismo 7

Gran Turismo 7

"Gran Turismo is back". In the first Gran Turismo title since 2017, the reprised series is coming back with a bang to the PS5 - with enhanced graphics and gameplay. We took a tour around the menu, first-person view inside the cars, and more in the showcase. No release date was confirmed.

Ratchet and Clank (Rift Apart)

Playstation is hitting the nostalgia switch hard with this release, and the cute little critters look almost real in this presentation of the power of the console. Described as a full-length interdimensional adventure by the Insomniac Developers in the live stream, we were also treated to a few minutes of pre-alpha gameplay footage, including slow-mo effects and pin-sharp graphics during a frantic fight scene. We get a sneak peek at the menus, gunplay and abilities used by Ratchet.

Project Athia

Project Athia

SquareEnix has designed this RPG exclusively for PlayStation 5, from the makers of Final Fantasy XV. The plot is not revealed, but we are given some beautiful wilderness to behold, as well as a look at the female robed protagonist. Square Enix describes it as "an other-worldly adventure" in "a world filled with beauty and dismay." There isn't much more info apart from that, but the game will also have a PC release.

Stray

Stray

A robot-run world where you appear to play as a ginger cat with whisker-sharp CGI. The Steam description for the game (slated for a 2021 release) is as follows;

Stray is a third-person cat adventure game set amidst the detailed neon-lit alleys of a decaying cybercity and the murky environments of its seedy underbelly. Roam surroundings high and low, defend against unforeseen threats and solve the mysteries of this unwelcoming place inhabited by nothing but unassuming droids and dangerous creatures.

Along the way, the cat befriends a small flying drone, known only as B12. With the help of this newfound companion, the duo try to find a way out.

Returnal

Housemarque presents the Bowie-eyed protagonist in a world where you can't die. In space, where, upon awakening, the planet around you changes and infects you, taking over your mind and memories, you're looking for answers all alone in this RPG. You're looking for answers, alone. The description states:

The game combines side-scrolling action with roguelike gameplay into a third-person shooter where players fight to survive a hostile planet that changes with every death

Kena: Bridge of Spirits 

Ember Lab, a small team with a background in film and animation present a story full of adventure and charm.  A story of one girl trying to save the world. When her powers are taken from her, she must regain them, along with her cute soot friends. With magical bows and spears, you must defeat your enemies. Releases 2020.

The Epic Games Store blurb is as follows:

A story driven, action adventure combining exploration with fast-paced combat. As Kena, players find and grow a team of charming spirit companions called the Rot, enhancing their abilities and creating new ways to manipulate the environment.

Goodbye Volcano High

Goodbye Volcano High

KO_OP present this cartoonish story-based game with human-lizard hybrids. Goodbye Volcano High has a planned release date of 2021.

The Steam store description is as follows:

Goodbye Volcano High is a cinematic narrative adventure about love, change, and the end of an era. Guide Fang through their final year of high school as they try to make things right before time is up.

Oddworld: Soulstorm

Oddworld: Soulstorm

The fate of your people is up to you (a weird turtle alien thing named 'Abe') in a Steampunk meets Mad Max setting. The official website description of the game says:

Witness Abe's horrifying conflict with a terrifying new machinations. A fresh narrative - a complete story retake inspired by our original tale. A big visual and cinematic leap aiming to break new ground for Oddworld. Intelligent new mechanics, twisted new devices enabling highly explosive obviousness. A dark parable that tells an epic tale of a volatile society pushed to its limits.

Ghostwire: Tokyo

The beauty hidden in mysterious and supernatural Tokyo.  This horror game looks beyond scary, and "it's up to you to save Tokyo" from all manner of ghouls and ghosts, from schoolgirls to Slender Man. Japan does it again with the immersive horror. Ghostwire: Tokyo releases in 2021.

JETT: The Far Shore

JETT: The Far Shore

The footage shows us travelling throughout time, from the behemoths of the sea to dinosaurs, until we finally arrive at (what could be) present-day Earth. The Far Shore releases "Holiday 2020" so presumably at the launch of the PS5. The Epic Games Store description states:

JETT : THE FAR SHORE® invites you on an interstellar expedition to carve out a future for a people haunted by oblivion in this cinematic action adventure.

"It was always gonna end like this" we hear as we see police with flashlights trawl through a rainy forest. Agent 47 is back in what may be the most surprising game reveal of the PlayStation 5 event. "Death Awaits - January 2021." IOI Interactive made this statement about the game:

HITMAN 3 is the dramatic conclusion to the World of Assassination trilogy and takes players around the world on a globetrotting adventure to sprawling sandbox locations. Agent 47 returns as a ruthless professional for the most important contracts of his entire career.

We go back in time to where it all began, but this time, it's werewolves. The first-person horror game will be the eighth in the Resident Evil series.

Console Reveal

The sleek new white curvy design was revealed in two versions. The PS5 will include a dualsense wireless controller, charging station, HD camera, pulse 3D wireless headset and media remote.
