The next Call of Duty could very well be the franchise's biggest in years. And to be completely honest, it's probably mostly down to its iconography.

Our next foray into the shooter series is a sequel to the 2019 reboot of Modern Warfare, and by that fact alone, the next Call of Duty is likely to be a smash hit. The series-inside-a-series is a gaming icon, and for good reason, so it's no surprise that the franchise is still flogging it.

However, we're yet to actually see anything of it yet, and as it's likely to launch in the holiday period this year, we may not actually be that far off from a reveal.

But some footage has leaked, giving us a peek into how the game could yet look - just don't expect it to be particularly flashy.

Potential Modern Warfare 2 Footage Leaks

Supposedly, the very first footage from the development of the upcoming Modern Warfare 2 has been leaked, and it shows some of the first tests of character models interacting with their environments.

The footage comes from CODPerseus, a Call of Duty leaker on Twitter, and is presented without caption. Naturally, fans are beginning to theorise that this is very early footage of development on Modern Warfare 2, as it puts models from Modern Warfare to use, though it's thought to be footage from a cutscene rather than anything in-game.

But, not everyone is convinced.

Is This Really Modern Warfare 2 Footage?

The validity of this footage's source has been widely discussed since it was released, with notable Call of Duty leaker RalphsValve coming forward to claim that, actually, this footage is simply unrelated test footage from a senior animator at Infinity Ward.

Supposedly, it's common practice for potential members of the team to create animation tests like these to prove their worth in hiring, though these reports are unconfirmed - but yet, this could still be entirely disconnected from Modern Warfare 2. After all, the game is probably a little further along in development now than is implied by this barebones animation - but we'll just have to wait and see if this appears in any trailers or gameplay.

Though this might not be footage for sure, it's still got us stoked for the new Call of Duty regardless. Let's just hope the finished product doesn't look exactly like this, eh?
