Resident Evil 4 Gold Edition is releasing on 9 February and players are demanding a physical release of the title.

There has been a recent shift away from physical media, particularly regarding Xbox games which are being slowly removed from stores.

Players are asking for a physical release of Resident Evil 4 Gold Edition

Earlier today, Resident Evil 4 Gold Edition was announced by Capcom.

The upcoming release will include Resident Evil 4 and the Separate Ways minigame, as well as the bonus items included with the Resident Evil 4 Deluxe Edition.

It doesn’t seem as though any additional content will be included in the release, so many players will likely already own the included items.

While the release doesn’t seem to bring many new things to the table, players are hoping that it may come alongside a physical release.

One Twitter user asked: “Being released on physical media too?”

“I need a physical release!” wrote another, alongside an image of their large collection of Resident Evil discs.

The previous release of Resident Evil Village Gold Edition did come with a physical release, however many players were disappointed to find that only the base game was included on the disc itself.

Instead of being included on the disc, the DLC was inserted as a voucher code to be digitally added.

A third Twitter user wrote: “A physical copy with ALL CONTENT ON DISC would be nice. If it’s in the works with just download codes and a base game disc don’t bother.”

Games companies seem to be moving away from physical media

There has been a lot of discussion recently surrounding physical media and whether or not it will remain a constant in the games industry.

Upcoming releases like Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 have been confirmed to not include a physical release, and it seems as though this is becoming more and more commonplace as time goes on.

More recently,  GamesIndustry.biz’s Christopher Dring has said that a major publisher told him that sales on physical media are so low that many retailers have decided to stop stocking them altogether.

It is therefore understandable why fans and collectors are immediately asking whether or not a game will have a physical release when it is announced, as it seems as though the games industry is becoming more and more digital.
