Open-World Hulk Game Looks Like A 'Smashing' Time
Yeah, Iron Man games are all well and good, but where's our one for the Emerald Giant? Just like the Incredible Hulk is often sidelined in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the ever-growing roster of Marvel games seems to be parking him on the sidelines for now.
Although we've had a resurgence in Marvel games since Insomniac's Marvel's Spider-Man, the likes of Crystal Dynamics' Marvel's Avengers have proved we've got a way to go. The relationship between Kamala Khan and Bruce Banner was praised as one of the 2020 title's triumphs, so it's got us asking why there hasn't been an open-world Hulk game put into production recently.
What Is The Open-World Hulk Game?
Noted concept gamer TeaserPlay is back with another tantalising prospect, and this time, it's the Green Meanie on the docket. You might remember TeaserPlay recently came up with their own concept or how Insomniac could handle its upcoming Wolverine game, so now, they've back to put Hulk front and centre.
In the video, we see Bruce in his full Hulk form, standing atop a New York City skyscraper. He then jumps to the ground - giving us a hulking superhero landing before he waddles around the streets. The video ends as he comes face to face with his famous foe, Abomination. It gives us similar vibes to 2008's The Incredible Hulk movie, but remembering that's the black sheep of the MCU, you're probably best to avoid going down that route.
TeaserPlay is known for its ambitious reimaginings, and this is no exception. Replying to the video, one fan wrote, "Looks amazing. Hopefully, Hulk gets some AAA studio love someday so this won't stay concept for ever..." There were plenty of cheers for a remake of Radical Entertainment's The Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction from 2005, while a third simply concluded, "Insomniac should make a Hulk game."
What Marvel Games Are On The Way?
When it comes to Hulk, we can imagine the duality of using your smarts as Banner and then Hulking out to pummel the bad guys as his gamma-infused alter ego. There are numerous reports that there are multiple Marvel games in the works. Insomniac is working on Spider-Man 2 and Wolverine, while EA is heading up an Iron Man game, and there are TWO games featuring Black Panther.
The idea of Insomniac turning to Hulk after that clawed Canadian isn't actually that out-there. When the cinematic Wolverine trailer dropped, eagle-eyed fans spotted a potential nod to the Incredible Hulk. We don't know if anyone is actively working on an open-world Hulk game in the vein of Insomniac's Spider-Man, but if TeaserPlay's concept isn't enough to sell it, nothing is.
