Octane Admits "I Think We're F***ed" When Scump Retires
As one of the greatest players of all time in Call of Duty, Seth "Scump" Abner carries a large weight on his shoulders - no, not Matthew "FormaL" Piper, but the entire existence of the CDL, according to his former teammate Sam "Octane" Larew.
Octane, now of Seattle Surge, appeared on the Eavesdrop Podcast with Hector "H3CZ" Rodriguez and began discussing the debate surrounding the future of the CDL.
The pair argued that content creation is one of the leagues biggest problems, with not many professionals taking the time out of their day to continue to work on streaming and YouTube videos. With Scump being the most high profile content creators in the professional scene, Octane admitted he has fears that when Scump decides to retire, there will be no personalities to succeed his royalty status.
Octane Fears For CDL After Scump Retires
Discussing Scumps impact, Octane began by saying "I have a lot of respect for Seth, he's built his content empire. The minute he retires he's getting 40,000 subs on Twitch".
"Genuinely, I think we're f***ed [when Scump retires]."
As for the fix, Octane believes that more people are trying to become Scump's successor, but it's too late. He continued to say "It's starting to happen, but I think it's too close to his retirement. It should have happened 2-3 years ago - there are not enough people to fill that space, and there'll never be one person it has to be a group effort."
As to when Scump will retire, is another debate entirely. Octane went on to claim this is Seth's best year of competing since Black Ops 3, labelling him "disgusting" on Black Ops Cold War.
Previously, Scump has been open about having roughly three years left in him, although he recently struck fear into the green wall by admitting he wants to see a Call of Duty: Vanguard trailer before renewing a contract.
