Warner Bros. titles of the last six months have been quite a swing and miss, as the superhero-on-superhero fighting action doesn't seem to be living up to the hype driven by their collective film IPs.

The less said about Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League the better, with the title possibly costing WB $200m in losses. Gotham Knights and MultiVersus' reboot didn't see much more success, leaving WB in quite a pickle with only a questionable Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions in the public pipeline.

But after Ed Boon teased Injustice 3 being in the works back in 2022, new job listings for Warner Bros confirm that NetherRealm Studios is working on a new AAA title, and fans are putting two and two together.

NetherRealm is hiring for a new 'AAA unannounced game'

As spotted on an online forum, Warner Bros is advertising jobs for a new AAA NetherRealm game, featuring a story mode and "high-quality realistic character animations".

"This position is for an Associate Producer to be a part of the production team in the day-to-day management of a AAA title that NetherRealm Studios is working on," the job advert reads.

NetherRealm doesn't currently have an announced project in the works, following the release of Mortal Kombat 1 in 2023, leaving this secret project to be subject to speculation. Superhero speculation.

Injustice 3 might finally be in the works

Given Boon's previous comments regarding Injustice 3 being close, the community is almost certain that DC's roster will be coming back out to play soon.

"It's most likely Injustice 3, the rotation changed a bit with the latest 2 being both MK games, but this is the common pipeline with NRS these days," said one fan.

Another added, "Injustice 3: Marvel vs DC. A man can dream."

Two plus two doesn't always equal four though, and after a recent Warner Bros. report claimed Discovery was selling its shares amid a financial blip, maybe the superhero genre might be left to breathe for a while.

Other fans have pencilled in hopes of a Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks remake - or sequel - from NetherRealm, which might be more in-tune with the current climate.
