After the year we've had, some nostalgia is more than welcome to give us that warm, fuzzy feeling. So how's this - Neopets could be coming to Nintendo Switch at some point soon.

For those of you who aren't aware, Neopets is a virtual pet website where you can own and raise virtual pets. You can buy virtual items for them, such as clothes, using virtual currency. One of these is called  Neopoints, which you can gain by playing on the site, and the other, Neocash, can either be bought with actual currency, or won by chance in the game.

What Do We Know About Neopets Coming To Nintendo Switch?

According to a report by the Washington Post, the team behind the website is hoping to build a version for our favourite portable gaming system. The website - that launched in November 1999 - was a staple for many as the internet really started to get to grips with what is now known as social media.

The hype for Tamagotchis, a small, handheld, digital pet device, was at its peak in the 1990s. So it made sense that a computer version, with enhanced graphics, would do well.

On Twitter, Shannon Liao, a journalist who helped to write the Washington Post piece, said on Twitter: "The Neopets team is thinking of bringing the game to the Nintendo Switch but declined to share further details."

What's Stopping Neopets Coming To Nintendo Switch?

The original Neopets website relied on Adobe Flash to run, so it's not as simple as just moving it over to a new medium. It will have to be built completely from scratch.

Some people don't realise that Neopets is actually still going, and there's even a mobile version. Back in 2014, it was taken over by a US developer called JumpStart games, which is owned by Chinese online gaming publisher, NetDragon.

Hopefully, if it does come to the Switch, it will experience the same kind of hype that games such as Animal Crossing have over the last few years.
