While some Call of Duty fans are content having fun in pubs and dying as many times as necessary to secure kills, others prefer a more high-stakes environment.

That's where Ranked comes into play, serving as a mode that pits competitors of a similar level against each other to create the best matches possible.

With skill rating on the line, rewards, and the chance to climb the divisions, everyone involved is doing everything they can to secure the win.

Unfortunately, the community isn't satisfied with the state of Ranked and has even labelled it as the "worst competitive mode" of all time.

MW3 competitors hate the "broken" Ranked mode

Taking to the ModernWarfareIII subreddit, user TSM-HabZ kept it short and simple, slamming Ranked as the "worst competitive mode" of all time in the hopes of stirring up a discussion.

As expected, the statement succeeded in doing exactly that, and on the whole, the majority of fans agree. For them, fundamental features like map selection, spawns, and no-placement matches are completely ruining the experience.

"On Highrise control, it's a race to who can spawn trap the other team first, In Terminal and Invasion, if you die once, there's literally no time to get to the Hardpoint again," said one user, with another arguing, "Only problem I have it with is the amount of cheaters and some of the maps."

If games don't feel competitive or fairly balanced, then Ranked will never fulfil the expectations of players. Ultimately, the mode is there to test who is the best and can showcase their skills during intense encounters, so if spawns are leading to losses, there's a serious problem.

CoD fans blame the SBMM in Ranked as the main problem

While all of the complaints above are mentioned multiple times, no Ranked problem is brought up more than SBMM and matchmaking. According to competitors in Gold and Plat, they're constantly being placed against top-tier players who are in Crimson and Iridescent.

"The SBMM in Ranked is the most insane thing I have ever seen, playing only Crimson and Iridescent level players every match and I'm only Plat 3 so far," said one user, with another complaining, "Devs are too lazy to make a proper Ranked system, they just copied SBMM from pubs - SBMM IS KILLING FPS GAMES."

With Ranked once again under fire in MW3 as it has been in the past with previous titles, it's hard to know where Sledgehammer go from here. Let's hope changes are implemented in Season 2 Reloaded or Season 3 at the latest to address the issues.
