It's not a secret that the base price of Call of Duty these days is not where Activision makes the majority of its money. The real profits come from live-service cosmetics that are solid in the store and high-profile collaborations that come alongside them.

These usually involve Operator skins that bring fan-favourite characters from various franchises into the CoD universe. Now the devs are expanding skins to both Killstreaks and Equipment in-game, it's something many fans think is too "greedy" to charge money for.

CoD fans slam "greedy" Killstreaks & Equipment skin in MW3

Taking to the ModernWarfareIII subreddit, user FistOfSven decided to ask the community for their opinions on skins being expanded to Equipment and Killstreak now. Overall, players appear to be divided, with one side being passionately against the "greedy" skins that, in their eyes, simply do not need to exist.

"Like everything else in the shop: overpriced and a huge f**king ripoff, stop buying paid cosmetics, people... Games will only get better if you do," said one user, with another, arguing they're "pointless and useless, there are many more important things devs can put that time towards."

As Equipment and Killstreak are on the screen for milliseconds most of the time, some fans think cosmetics for them is "too far" and just demonstrates how much money Activision is trying to squeeze out the playerbase. Not everyone shares this anger though, with some finding it easy to ignore these skins.

Other MW3 fans "couldn't care less" but demand more gameplay improvements

On the other side of the fence are the CoD fans who don't care about Killstreak and Equipment skins as long as improvements to the game are prioritised. For them, it's easy to ignore the store and focus on the gameplay.

"Couldn't care less, I just want better servers, I don't want the flashy stuff, I just want a game that's stable and consistent in performance," said one user, with another claiming, "I wouldn’t buy any of it, so don’t really care."

Those who disagree with these cosmetics argue that this complacency is why Activision pushes the boundaries with microtransactions so much. However, while the community keep buying these bundles, the devs are unlikely to make any changes to their model.
