In Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone, High Alert is one of the most popular perks, being a staple of a lot of meta loadouts.

The ability effectively lets you know when an enemy who is out of view has spotted you or has you in their sights. This is unbelievably valuable, as it gives you time to find cover or potentially swing and look for the kill before they can shoot.

While a lot of fans expected High Alert to make an appearance in MW3, instead, a new version called the LR Detector in the Gear slot is available to equip. Unfortunately, MW3 fans have been left confused, as during the Beta, the LR Detector seems to do "absolutely nothing," making it completely useless.

MW3 fans slam LR Detector for doing "absolutely nothing"

Taking to the ModernWarfareIII subreddit, user CompleteFacePalm decided to ask the CoD community whether "anyone actually knows what the LR Detector does?" The description of the LR Detector says it "warns of hostile laser and radiation sources," which is a pretty vague explanation of what the perk is used for.

According to those in the thread, the LR Detector is like High Alert, but "only for when someone is using a laser/red dot sight." Despite this, not everyone is convinced it works this way, as when they have it equipped, it seems to do "absolutely nothing," even when a foe is using a laser.

LR Detector may have been bugged in MW3 Beta

One popular theory on why the LR Detector is useless is that the perk was broken or bugged during the Beta. Popular CoD YouTuber TheXclusiveAce even revealed that he couldn't "figure out what it's doing," suggesting maybe we'll get more clarity at MW3's full release.

Those in the thread also agree, with a lot of them keeping their fingers crossed that the LR Detector is just temporarily bugged.

"It’s supposed to be high alert for when people are using lasers supposedly but it doesn’t seem to work and the description is really poorly done," said one user, with another claiming "I really damn hope is bugged cause I play with low/no sounds."

Let's hope we get some answers about the LR Detector very soon, or at least an improvement on the current description to explain what it actually offers in MW3.
