It’s no secret that this wave of Call of Duty has irked a fair few fans.

With Modern Warfare 2 not necessarily flourishing as a standalone FPS, the rebooted classic not scratching the nostalgia itch, and a boycott deployed by angry streamers, there's been plenty to moan about this year.

And with the Superheroes of Season 4 laying down their cloaks for the launch of Season 5, it seems like fans are becoming more vocal about their disgruntlement.

Modern Warfare 2 Season 5 labelled as 'Overwhelmingly Negative'

Based on 306 reviews for Modern Warfare 2, Steam has now adjudged the current Call of Duty game to be "very negative."

This rating stemmed purely from player feedback since its launch on October 28, 2022, and most recently, Modern Warfare 2 has been slapped with an "Overwhelmingly negative" tag.

In the last 30 days, Modern Warfare 2 has faced 304 reviews, and only 17% of these have been positive, meaning roughly 252 players have left negative feedback on the game.

Given that we've already seen Call of Duty open its ears to the community, one fan has now claimed that these reviews can only be positive for the franchise.

"The 252 people who left negative reviews in the last 30 days are going to make a huge impact on the success of the game moving forward.," they said on Reddit.

Modern Warfare 2 BlackCell Pass still thrives

Even with so many rubbish reviews though, the game continues to sell its microtransactions, such as the BlackCell Battle Pass.

Back for its third run in Season 5, the premium rewards pass has found itself in the top-five best-selling list on Steam, even with so many bad reviews, only coming in behind the Call of Duty hub, CS:GO, Remnant II, and table-topper Baldur's Gate 3.

Even when the game is failing, BlackCell and microtransactions seem to be at an all-time high, which might not bode in the favour of those reviewers who want to see some changes.
