The Most Popular Gaming Franchise In The World
As will be no surprise to anyone, it was discovered that when comparing a series of factors like lifetime series views on Twitch, average franchise critic scores and total game sales, the Super Mario series tops the board for the planet’s most popular series. The diverse series has an impressive 88.2% average critic score, almost 300 million game sales and a whopping 2.926 million lifetime series views on Twitch.

Mario is followed closely by the Call of Duty series that boasts 301.46 million game sales and 88 million annual worldwide google searches and is tailed by Grand Theft Auto. The GTA series packs a huge 90.1% average critic score, the highest critic score of the top five on the list. The rest of the list is packed out with iconic series; The Legend of Zelda, Assassin’s Creed and Mario Kart take the top three, and Total War takes the bottom spot of the study in position fifty.

The UK and US’ Most Popular Gaming Franchise
Most countries in the world have their own flagship title, and as it turns out, the UK and the US have that fact in common. Surprisingly, the most popular video game franchise in the UK and US is Animal Crossing, which has dominion over 24 of the 75 countries researched. It makes sense given the huge boom of popularity the series received around March 2020, as both the UK and US went nuts for the latest title New Horizons upon its release. It’s not the series that appears the most though - that title goes to Call of Duty, which has dominated 29 countries on the list.

There’s some fascinating picks throughout the list, but it’s truly not surprising that Super Mario takes the cake. Mario has been the face of gaming ever since his introduction, so we can’t bring ourselves to be shocked. Still, Call of Duty is gaining on it, and who knows, next year it could officially take the crown.
