Modern Warfare 3 Ranked is facing yet another setback ahead of its supposed launch this week.

The void in Modern Warfare 3 which is a competitive playlist is finally set to be filled in this week, as Ranked is landing for both multiplayer and Warzone, splitting up the sweats and casuals and allowing both sides of the CoD coin to live harmoniously again.

This year, Sledgehammer Games didn't opt to release a Call of Duty League warm-up playlist like they did in MW2, but with Ranked finally coming in Season 1 Reloaded, we shouldn't have to wait much longer.

Yet that wait is being extended, as MW3 Ranked gets another setback.

Modern Warfare 3 Ranked will launch after Season 1 Reloaded

Season 1 Reloaded is set to launch today (January 17), where it will join the new map (Rio), two new weapons (TAQ Evolvere, and HRM-9), three game modes (Team Gunfight, Infected, and Headquarters), and a wealth of changes to the weapon pool.

Contrary to what we thought though, Modern Warfare 3 Ranked will not be immediately released after the update.

Instead, the competitive playlist will be held back as

Taking to Twitter, the developers said, "Heads up competitors, MWIII Ranked Play will not be available immediately after players receive the S1 Reloaded update.

"The Ranked Play team will be performing checks before enabling the mode for all players."

Modern Warfare 3 Ranked launch delayed for 'checks'

The Season 1 Reloaded update is scheduled for 5 pm GMT, which will see the plethora of casual playlists go live as well as the new map.

The aforementioned "checks" shouldn't be too long though, as Treyarch and Sledgehammer Games will likely be testing out the rest of the content to ensure nothing game-breaking happens to ruin competitive integrity.

In the past, the developers have done these kinds of checks before, holding back Ranked content by a few hours, meaning we'll likely have the Modern Warfare 3 Ranked playlist by the late evening (GMT).

It's not too much longer to wait, but it's enough to still annoy a few fans who would have been preparing to rush home from work to get on the grind.
