Infinity Ward chose to reinvent the wheel for Modern Warfare 2 in terms of the UI, especially in the menu department, where it completely overhauled the Gunsmith, twice.
The changes haven't gone with too much praise, with many finding that navigating the menus to their favourite game modes and creating a class is quite a task.
But it's the in-game UI that's now being criticised, as players are getting killed by their "teammates" all too often in Season 3.
Modern Warfare 2 fans are dying to 'teammates' thanks to UI overlay
In Modern Warfare 2, Infinity Ward decided there would be no enemy nameplates above players, differing from red to blue depending on their team. Instead, the devs opted to simply have a blue dot above the head of teammates. No blue dot and it's open fire.
However, this has become quite an issue, as the dots remain visible through walls, meaning if enemies and teammates are lined up, the UI is making enemies appear as teammates.
One clip of this has surfaced on Reddit, where the friendly-fire blue dot appeared over the head of an Operator, and the user was stunned when they were shot at.
The 'Teammate dot' bug is killing MW2 players
The clip shows one player coming from Connector on Breenbergh Hotel into the Atrium, where they spot a "teammate" in Double Arches. Seconds later, the opposite player unloads a clip in their face, sending them back to the respawn screen.
The teammate was actually in the Lobby, through three walls, but the weird UI lined up perfectly. "I don't remember ever having this problem in previous CoD Titles, but then again, I skipped the last two," said one critic on Reddit.
"I don't understand why they didn't keep it how it was in MW19, displaying the enemy's name instead." Another said, "What's even worse is they fixed this exact problem by removing your teammate's dot if an enemy was between and it worked. Then they broke it again with a season launch update."
This has become quite the problem in Ranked, as players are doubly confused considering friendly fire is activated too. The bug isn't currently on Infinity Ward's Trello Board of things to fix, whereas problems like the broken combat records are, meaning there's no knowing if the UI will be fixed any time soon.
