The Call of Duty franchise has enjoyed a successful expansion away from the usual consoles that it was once native to. Having spread its wings into PC first, CoD: Mobile soon became a hit in the handheld community, and with Warzone Mobile on the horizon, CoD's soon-to-be adopted parent has eyed even more avenues for people to enjoy the fast-paced arcade shooter.

With Microsoft still battling it out in the legal department over its intended acquisition of Activision - and the Call of Duty franchise - it's evident that the Xbox owners already have serious plans to milk their moneymaker.

In a weird, yet wonderful, turn of events from Microsoft trying to make CoD exclusive (or just not on PlayStation), the daddy-in-waiting has now claimed that he wants Call of Duty to head to Nintendo Switch next.

Phil Spencer Wants Call of Duty On Nintendo Switch

Although Xbox head Phil Spencer has been accused of dropping "inadequate" offers to Sony for the future of Call of Duty on PlayStation, the CEO has now claimed that Nintendo Switch could host CoD in the future.

"Call of Duty specifically will be available on PlayStation. I'd love to see it on the Switch, I'd love to see the game playable on many different screens," Spencer has now said. Although critics are sure to call out the Switch's lack of power when compared to the grunt of the PS5 and Xbox Series, we say "the more the merrier."

Call of Duty would follow the likes of Apex Legends on porting over to Nintendo Switch, and it's likely that the success of Warzone Mobile could determine whether it would be the battle royale or multiplayer modes that would make it over to Nintendo's hybrid handheld console.

Microsoft Preparing For A 'Minecraft' Styled Expansion For Call of Duty

The saga between Microsoft and Playstation is turning into an episode of "he said, she said", with CEOs and other officials all spewing out contrasting statements. However, it appears that even authorities are making Call of Duty stay on PS, so why not lean into the expansion and target Nintendo Switch? But bizarrely, Spencer has now compared the shooting franchise to Minecraft in the way that they want to expand.

"Our intent is to treat CoD like Minecraft," he said, adding, "When you think about 3 billion people playing video games, there are only about 200 million households on console," meaning a dive into handheld hardware is a necessity for Microsoft.

Spencer's comments should come with a pinch of salt though, given that we've seen Microsoft pledge a future for CoD on Playstation in one breath and only offer three years of gameplay in another. Whether the head honcho actually has the best wishes of the consumer in mind or is just seeing dollar signs ring with another way to grab the cash, Nintendo fans... get ready.
