Microsoft clarifies plans for Xbox-exclusive Call of Duty content

The saga continues between Microsoft, Activision, Sony, and the wider gaming world. The pending merger that could see Xbox take control of the Call of Duty and Overwatch franchises continued to be met with heavy resistance.

If truth be told, the friction between the companies during this legal war is becoming quite tiresome, and now, gaming fans simply just want to see a result - one way or the other.

However, Microsoft has made a public statement that settles any sort of discrepancies within the battle, seemingly confirming that Call of Duty content will stay open to everyone and Xbox won't take a single feature exclusively.

Phil Spencer shuts down Call of Duty exclusivity rumours

For the last few years, Sony has been treated with exclusive Call of Duty content such as pre-releases, skins, and even game modes, while Xbox players have been forced to sit on the sidelines.

Now that the Xbox owner is posed to take control of the development, Sony and some other platforms have started to cry that the devs want to make CoD exclusive to their own consoles. This would leave PlayStation completely in the dark.

This isn't the case, as Xbox boss Phil Spencer has now revealed that Microsoft wants to take the Minecraft approach with Call of Duty by allowing the exact same game to be on every console possible, with zero exclusivities.

Call of Duty won't have platform-exclusive content

Speaking in an interview, Spencer said, "When we say 'available everywhere' or 'not exclusive', we absolutely want to make the best version of Call of Duty available for any player on all of the platforms."

Spencer also immediately slammed the door shut on any notion of having Call of Duty content exclusive to Xbox. With a swift "no."

He added, "That's not the game we're trying to play here. It's not about a skin on a gun or a certain mode of the game. The same version of the game will be available on all platforms." Now, all that's left is for Sony to pick up its pace and continue to make exclusive games for its own platform.
