It's the end of an era, as Media Molecule has just revealed that its live-service game creation tool known as Dreams will soon be ceasing its updates.
The game's live support will be ending on September 1, but gamers will still be able to play and share their own creations - this just means that the title will stop getting events and updates.
Why is Media Molecule ending support for Dreams?
"As we continue to evaluate and evolve our priorities for the studio and Dreams, we've made the difficult decision to discontinue live support for Dreams after 1st September, 2023 to shift our focus to an exciting new project," reads Media Molecule's blog post announcing the game's updates ending.
Thankfully, we're not set to miss out on Dreams content just yet, as the company has revealed that the game will still be getting updates until its cut-off date in September.
"You'll continue to be able to play, create and share Dreams with others after September, but we won't be releasing any more updates to the game or events such as DreamsCom, All Hallows' Dreams or the Impy Awards."
"Although this is challenging news we do have a few more updates on the way, including the much anticipated Tren, and a significant improvement to animation and our last Create mode update," the blog post adds.
Media Molecule has a new project in the works
This cancellation is, however, promised to make way for a new project that Media Molecule is working on.
There isn't much word on when this new project is set to launch, but in the meantime, we'll just have to accept Dreams' fate. The company seems to love putting the control to make games in the hands of players, so perhaps whatever is next won't be so far off from Dreams in its approach.
It's a shame to see the creator go - but we're confident that Media Molecule has something gorgeous in the works to take its place.
