Lara Croft has been gone for too long. The rebooted Tomb Raider series was a treat when it debuted in 2013 - though its player numbers dwindled with its second game's exclusivity deal and the third's critical downturn.

Still, Tomb Raider stands as a strong entry of games into the Uncharted-alike subgenre. Word on the return of the Tomb Raider herself has been sparse for some time, as she's laid dormant since the live-action movie promised a sequel... which failed to materialise.

But now, it looks like Ms. Corft is coming back to live action in style.

It has been revealed that a new Tomb Raider series is on the way, and it'll be landing on Amazon Prime. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the new series based on the video games will be penned by Phoebe Waller-Bridge, the mastermind behind Fleabag.

Though Waller-Bridge does plenty of acting, she doesn't seem to be attached to the series in an acting capacity, and it looks like she'll be staying in the writers' room.

Waller-Bridge will be executive producing the series too, alongside Ryan Andolina and Amanda Greenblatt. This comes as part of Amazon's push into gaming adaptations, with the streaming giant already working on Fallout and God of War

Who Will Play Lara Croft In The Tomb Raider Series?

With the role having some pretty impressive casting in the past, the biggest question on everybody's minds is who will be our Lara Croft?

It's likely that Alicia Vikander won't be returning as Croft after she dropped out of the proposed second film in her Tomb Raider series, and there hasn't been any word about who could be stepping into the role.

Elsewhere, we doubt other Lara alumni Angelina Jolie or Haley Atwell will reprise their role as the treasure-hunting heiress.

As usual, let's open the floor to some weird and wonderful fan castings. Who knows who will become our next Lara Croft, but we're team Melissa Barrera all the way.
