If there's one thing that we can all agree that Valve isn't very good at, it's time management.
The company has never been much good at delivering a game that players want in a timely fashion, which makes their games a pretty huge shock upon reveal, especially when the industry has accepted that the company spends most of its time on Steam's managing and upkeep. This doesn't mean that their games are unloved, and in fact, the opposite is true in spite of the dev teams' negligence, with fans returning to games that it seems Valve has long forgotten.
And now, one of its most critically acclaimed titles has had a pretty big update - about 14 years after fans wanted it. Nice one.
Left 4 Dead 2 gets a new update
The Swamp Fever map in Left 4 Dead 2 has been the subject of a new change from Valve, in an update that seems to give players exactly what they've wanted from the map for a very long time indeed.
A gator that lives on the map has become the focus of a lot of fans who have simply fallen in love with him, a slither of levity in a pretty bleak post-apocalyptic world. He's a sweet wee guy, and fans have wanted for his name to be officially recognised for some time - and now, Valve has finally done it.
The game has now officially named the gator Fred, granting a moniker to a character that has been overdue for over 14 years. It's a nice touch, but damn, Valve, it didn't have to take you this long.
What else is in the new Left 4 Dead 2 update?
Much to the dismay of Left 4 Dead fans, that's about where the fun ends.
Though the game has gone some time without an update that brings any real content, the latest update for Left 4 Dead 2 has focussed on a host of bug fixes.
This is, of course, a good thing - but players have been hoping for more for a little while. At least we get to share our upset with Fred. Fred's never let us down.
