We were teased with the tantalising prospect that the January 31 PlayStation State of Play would give us a closer look at Judas, and now, this spiritual successor to BioShock has come out with all guns blazing.

Fitting in alongside some big titles during the showcase is no mean feat, and yet, the hype surrounding Judas sees this sci-fi horror shine among the rest. Following a reveal way back at 2022's The Game Awards, Ghost Story Games finally lifted the curtain.

Judas gets fresh gameplay trailer

If all the hype of Judas' original trailer didn't make its lack of a release date feel painful, the PlayStation State of Play will make it feel even more agonising.

Coming to PS5, Xbox Series, Epic Games Store, and Steam, Judas looks like an ambitious title. We've been starved of BioShock games, and while we know the fourth one is out there somewhere, original BioShock Director Ken Levine can scratch that itch.

What do we know about Judas?

Much of Judas' latest trailer appears to suggest we'll be looking to "fix what we broke". The game's official site has the following blurb:

"A disintegrating starship. A desperate escape plan. You are the mysterious and troubled Judas. Your only hope for survival is to make or break alliances with your worst enemies. Will you work together to fix what you broke – or will you leave it to burn?"

It's certainly got the trademark Bioshock feel that many would expect from Levine's team.

Having been in the works since around 2014, Judas is Levine's first game since Irrational Games was rebranded as Ghost Story Games. It's clear to see the BioShock influences here, with a dystopian backdrop and plasmid-inspired perks. Still, we've swapped the depths of the ocean for the stars.

Effectively feeling like BioShock in space, Judas follows the titular character, trapped on a disintegrating spaceship and armed with an escape plan as well as a creative arsenal of abilities. We're told our only hope of survival is to "make or break alliances with your worst enemies."

Judas definitely suggests we'll meet a colourful cast of unhinged characters, but whether they'll be the next Sander Cohen remains to be seen. Either way, Judas' first-person perspective lets us get up close and personal with our fellow doomed passengers. Consider us hyped.
