It Looks Like MW2 Ranked Playlist Is On The Way Soon

Our hopes of a Modern Warfare 2 ranked playlist from Infinity Ward could be answered, but apparently, it won't be available when MW2 launches.

With Call of Duty setting a release date for near enough everything in the works - November 16 for Modern Warfare 2 Season 1 content including Warzone 2.0, DMZ, and a 'fan favourite multiplayer name, and December 16 for Season 1 reloaded - hardly a whisper has been spread about ranked play.

As a cornerstone of competitive play, ranked playlists have never gone down well in Infinity Ward titles. The dribble of family-friendly attempts at creating a competitive environment has never lived up to the heights of the usual ranked playlist made by Treyarch.

Thankfully, the Black Ops provider is lending a helping hand to their inter-Activision rivals this year, giving the franchise its first taste at a proper ranked playlist. But amid silence on when it will arrive, it's taken quite some effort to decipher when Modern Warfare 2 ranked will start.

MW2 Ranked Won't Come At Launch

The ranked playlist is a bridge between multiplayer and the Call of Duty League professionals, copying the ruleset and map rotations to offer an insight into how the game is played at the highest level.

However, the latest Call of Duty blog which explained what we can expect come October 28 had nothing regarding ranked, which usually comes with a section of its own. Putting two and two together, fans have now dropped all hope of seeing the playlist live come day one.

So, why not tie it into the start of the CDL calendar instead? Well, that's the theory that's being thrown around by industry insiders. The CDL has been announced to start on December 15, with the first qualifiers being played out online. Coincidentally, this comes just one day after Modern Warfare 2 Season 1 Reloaded arrives.

MW2 Ranked Expected For Season 1 Reloaded Release

Call of Duty insider TheGhostOfHope has teased that the ranked game mode will come on December 14 as part of the mid-season update - coinciding with the launch of the CDL's fourth season. "[It's] very likely it’s a “surprise” alongside Major 1," they said.

This could also mean that Warzone ranked, which has been promised to be coming quite early into the battle royale's lifetime, could also be launched. That's all well and good, but the systems between them will likely differ in functionality quite a lot.

With hope, we'll only have to wait two months for a ranked playlist to barge its way into Call of Duty's 2022 offerings, although this will still seem too long of a gap for some.
