We're all "marvelling" at the might of Insomniac Games, as the acclaimed developer behind the Ratchet & Clank games is making its mark on the world of Marvel Comics. After the success of Marvel's Spider-Man, Insomniac is already on board for a sequel, a Wolverine game, and a mysterious PS5 multiplayer title.

There's been plenty of talk about Insomniac heading up a Marvel Gaming Universe (MGU), and while we've only had Spider-Man and 2020's Miles Morales, both games were littered with Easter eggs referencing everyone from Doctor Strange to Daredevil, and even the Avengers as a whole. We know Insomniac is working on something else, but just what is it?

What's Going On With Insomniac's PS5 Multiplayer?

Last September, Shpeshal Nick spoke on the XboxEra Podcast and discussed the Insomniac multiplayer game, which could be a PS5 exclusive. Many took the update with a grain of salt and put the rumour to bed when the hype of an X-Men or Fantastic Four game died down. Now, Insomniac is throwing some fuel on the fire.

Insomniac's Shaun McCabe has posted on Twitter and confirmed the developer is hiring more staff for the multiplayer game. Currently, the dev is looking for a Senior Gameplay Manager - with the ideal candidate being "responsible for helping us build a world-class team for a new multiplayer game." They also need to have "a passion for multiplayer games and a strong background in multiplayer technologies and development practices."

Given that the team is presumably deep in Spider-Man 2 ahead of its release next year - and given that we're warned the Wolverine game is a long way off - we expect this cryptic entry to be in the very first stages of development. Who knows where a potential MGU could be up to by the time we get there. Either way, the fandom was suitably pumped.

What Is Insomniac Games Working On?

The replies to the tweet were filled with a whole host of ingenious ideas, with a possible return to Resistance being a popular choice. Resistance 3 rounded off the trilogy in 2016, and since then, there have been calls for a fourth game to bring the series to a new generation. There's a chance it could be something set in the world of Ratchet & Clank, but then again, it could be something completely new.

Obviously, a lot of the conversation is taken up by the idea that Insomniac could be moving forward with a Fantastic Four video game. Marvel's First Family is set for a reinvention on the silver screen, so a game would be well-timed. Finally, imagine the scope of a multiplayer X-Men game in the vein of Raven Software's cult X-Men Legends titles. Insomniac clearly understands the Marvel source material, and it would blow our minds to see it tackle Charles Xavier's School For Gifted Youngsters.
