While SEGA's The House of the Dead might've been largely forgotten in a world that's dominated by the likes of The Last of Us, Resident Evil, and Telltale's The Walking Dead, this on-rails classic is an icon of the zombie shooter genre for some.

Nintendo Switch owners are only just getting to grips with MegaPixel Studios' The House of the Dead Remake, which brings the 1996 classic to a whole new generation. Although PlayStation and Xbox users feel rightly locked out of this haunted mansion, new leaks suggest at least some of us will be able to join the party.

Is The House Of The Dead Remake Coming To PlayStation?

First spotted over on Reddit by u/the_andshrew, The House of the Dead Remake has apparently appeared in the backend of the PlayStation Network. Better yet, there's an official title ID and even a placeholder image. Remembering that official documents relating to The House of the Dead Remake previously mentioned a multi-platform release, we're sold on the idea.

Although the listing looks legitimate, we'll have to take it with a pinch of salt for now. MegaPixel Studio and publisher Forever Entertainment are yet to make the news official, but if fans have been able to uncover a potential port in plain sight, it surely won't be long if this is the real deal.

Forever Entertainment's 2019 annual report listed House of the Dead for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Google Stadia, Steam, and Epic Games Store, but it's unclear where that's still the plan. If PS4 is on the way, it at least makes sense that a new-gen version is also on the cards.

Following agents Thomas Rogan and the mysterious "G", The House of the Dead takes the pair into the haunted house of D.r Curien - who is undertaking a series of unnatural experiments. Apart from some lacklustre ports to the Sega Saturn and PC in 1998, the original The House of the Dead has been chained to the arcade. The franchise continued, with five main series games and the last being 2018's House of the Dead: Scarlet Dawn

Despite the first reviews giving The House of the Dead Remake a pretty tepid reception, the story doesn't end here. MegaPixel is already working on a Switch remake of The House of the Dead 2, so this might be the start of finally seeing the series hit the mainstream. If the first game is coming to PS4, expect to see those brain-hungry munchers crawl from the grave soon.
