To anyone who is familiar with its production, High on Life might be presumed dead. Following some pretty grim accusations being made about Squanch Games' boss and Rick and Morty creator Justin Roiland, you'd expect that the studio would be all but crushed.

After all, many players were coming to the game due to Roiland's involvement. But, despite Roiland's prominent roles and resignation, High on Life appears to be plodding along without him. Now, it looks like a new expansion is going to be setting the stage for the future of Squanch post-Roiland.

High on Life reveals High on Knife DLC

Taking a surprising horror-tinged turn, High on Life has officially revealed its first DLC pack, titled High on Knife. Do you get it? Because it follows a knife? And the game is called High on Life? Isn't it so funny?

The DLC follows a new sentient knife called Knifey (groan) - who is voiced by Michael Cusack. It also features a new gun called Harper, voiced by Saturday Night Live's Sarah Sherman.

The High on Knife trailer is packed with all of the quirks that made the core game compelling but adds a sinister, much gooier, presence. It makes sense that the team is carrying on after the rip-roaring success of the core game on Game Pass, and the DLC will be welcome for fans. Still, there's some confusion.

Is High on Knife coming to Game Pass?

The trailer has listed at the end that the DLC is "available for purchase only," and yet the credits still list Xbox Game Pass. The main game is part of the service, but this statement has sparked head-scratching as to whether the DLC will join it or players will have to shell out more for it.

It seems as though you'll be able to purchase High on Knife on top of the game, but it isn't likely to matter if you don't technically own the game and are just playing it on Game Pass. After all, it'd make sense for Xbox to make this possible after the huge success of the core adventure.

This will be a big deal for fans - let's just hope that the game isn't pulled from Game Pass any time soon because that's a can of worms we're not yet willing to open.
